Sorting

Don’t be afraid to be picky.
Perhaps the most tedious portion of production is the actual sorting of items.
In production prior to being able to price an item, we must determine if an item is sellable. This is important, we don’t want a store filled with dirty, broken, or soiled items. This goes for everything, from shoes, clothing, furniture, and household goods, we must be picky with the items we put onto the floor.
An effective way to go about sorting is to view the item as if you were a consumer or a customer at our store. Would you purchase a cup that was chipped and risk cutting your lips? Would you wear a shirt that had holes or BBQ sauce from Carls Jr. on it? How about that dining room table with someone’s name carved into it, think the in-laws will be impressed? If you answered no to any of these questions, then you should ask yourself, why would I price and put the item on the floor? If you answered yes, you should probably take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror.
Bottom line is, if you wouldn’t buy the item based off of its condition, there’s a pretty good chance our customers won’t either. Special exceptions are made for items deemed vintage or project pieces. The market for these items is very small and specific, and prices are always determined with this in mind. This is something we will go into when we discuss pricing.
